Shravanabelagola - ಶ್ರವಣ ಬೆಳಗೊಳ

Visited Date:

25th September 2015 (Saturday)

How to reach Shravanabelagola:

It was about 76 kms from my home, started at 8:00AM reached the destination at 10:30AM. There are two routes from Mysuru to Shravanabelagola.

i. Mysuru => Sri Ranga Patna => Pandava Pura => Chinakurali => Krishna.Raja.Pete =>Kikkere=>Shravanabelagola.
ii. Mysuru => Belagola => Krishna.Raja.Sagara => Katteri => Babey => Chinakurali => Krishna.Raja.Pete =>Kikkere =>Shravanabelagola.

I chose to drove in the route (ii) as Belagola is near to my home (Vijayanagara II Stage Mysuru) and route (i) is farer and 86 kms from Mysuru. Drove passed Krishna Raja Sagara Police Station and then bridge build across the river Kaveri in Krishna Raja Sagara. After moving further about 1-2 kms in the same road, you will encounter a circle in Katteri, turn right to reach Babey. Please scan the road for the route to Babey where you need to take a sharp left after 300 metres from that circle in Katteri. You will pass through few villages and after that you will reach Chinakurali which is NH7 road, from there it's a cakewalk as there is no deviation up to Kikkeri. After Kikkeri, you have to take a right turn which leads to Shravanabelagola.

The road from Belagola to Chinakurali is not good due to the tipper lorries impact on the KRS roads. From Chinakurali to Kikkeri, it's NH7 and awesome road. You can speed-up your accelerator here. After Kikkeri to Shravana Belogola, it's an average road. After fews kilometers from Kikkeri towards Shravanabelagola, you will be able to see gigantic statue of Bahubali Gommatesvara follow the statue you will reach the destination.

Observation after reaching the destination, the parking of two-wheelers are not adequate. You should park under the tree but four-wheelers parking facility is ok as you can park at the footpaths near the temple. Please carry shocks with you to reach the temple as the footsteps are carved from rocks of the hill which becomes hot after 10 AM. Ideal time to trek to the temple will be before the sun intensifies. Toilet facility is there. Eaters can be found near the foot of the hill. Not checked about the boarding and loadging facility.
